On the first day of Christmas…..I’m sure you know the song. The holiday season is a time of celebration through giving and receiving. One of the easiest ways to connect with your team and improve your community is by making sure your business is on the giving side this holiday season. Here are twelve easy low or no cost ways to give back to your community this year.
- Winter Coat Drive- Collect new or gently used coats in your office and donate them to a local shelter or a national program like One Warm Coat.
- Purchase your company holiday cards from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The proceeds from the cards are used to further their mission to help children around the globe.
- Create holiday boxes for soldiers stationed abroad. Work with the USO program to ensure soldiers receive them.
- Buy lunch for homeless individuals that spend their days near your office.
- Collect spare change or spare goods and donate them to the Salvation Army.
- Make or buy blankets and quilts and donate to the local chapter of Project Linus , an organization that gives blankets to needy kids.
- Donate money or items to the Salvation Army . You can skip red buckets and donate online; they’ll even pick-up items you’d like to give!
- If you’re an animal lover, the Washington Humane Society has a holiday toy and treats drive for homeless pets each year. You can also give a $20.00 donation in exchange for a holiday photo with your pet.
- Make a donation in the name of an employee or client to their favorite charity.
- Support Toys for Tots by collecting toys from employees and clients, then taking them to a local donation box.
- Practice a few classic holiday carols with your co-workers and perform them at a local nursing home or senior center.
- Donate your time and volunteer at a local food bank or soup kitchen.
